Synopsys

Gaetano and Delia meet for dinner to discuss the terms of the holiday break of their children. The meal immediately becomes a wide reflection of the past 10 years which led this separated couple to the sad, but realistic point. Throughout several flashbacks, we see the two recount their past, from good times to bad. We witness the early days of their relation, through a series of deep conversations and passionate lovemaking. As they continue talking, the downward slide of their relation is revealed: we see Gaetano degrade more and more into an uncaring father and an insensitive and rude husband. A heated exchange seemingly miraculously is morphed into an honest reflection of a true past love, which faced the common tragic effects of time, selfishness, and insecurity, but was rooted in the best of intentions. It’s clear for the first time in the present day, that these two were truly in love. Even though they are still trying to start new lives, the wounds are still fresh enough to not get over their life together.

A Night Of Italian Cinema – Hungry Hearts

For our regular monthly appointment “A night of Italian cinema”  at the: “The Friese-Green Club” located in Sukumvit soi 22.

On Thursday, 28th of July, at 8:00pm, we’ll be showing the movie :

Hungry Hearts – (Italy 2014 – 109 min) – by Saverio Costanzo – with Adam Driver, Alba Rohrwacher, Roberta Maxwell

Hungry Hearts is a 2014 Italian drama film directed by Saverio Costanzo. It was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 71st Venice International Film Festival.[1][2] At Venice, Adam Driver and Alba Rohrwacher won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively.[3] It was also screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

Synopsys

When Mina (Alba Rohrwacher) and Jude (Adam Driver) first meet, it’s under the worst of circumstances; Mina finds herself accidentally trapped in a bathroom with Jude, who is suffering from food poisoning induced diarrhea. Despite this awkward first encounter, the two form a seemingly strong relationship. However when Mina announces that she’s going to return to Italy Jude initiates a sexual encounter that ends with him ejaculating inside of her, despite Mina specifically requesting otherwise. Mina becomes pregnant as a result of the encounter, which further ties her to Jude and prevents her from traveling to Italy. The pregnancy ends up putting a large amount of strain on their relationship since Mina is obsessed with purity and greatly distrusts modern medicine. While Jude wants her to visit an obstetrician he decides to trust Mina’s decision to rely more on alternative and traditional medicine, even going so far as to attend a meeting with a psychic, who declares the fetus an Indigo child. However once the baby is born Mina begins putting the infant on a vegan diet, which concerns Jude, who begins to secretly go against Mina’s parenting techniques. This puts the two parents at odds with one another and Mina begins to further obsess about keeping the child pure, at one point feeding the child an anti-nutrient oil because Jude fed the child some meat. As things progress the relationship continues on a downward spiral that puts the child’s well-being and life at risk.
